The EU Strategy for the Danube Region adopted in mid-2011 by the European Council is now in its implementation phase. It is to lead to co-operation activities that will generate a sustainable effect, not only at the political level, but also for the economy and society at large, and thus to give life to the Danube Region concept.

The conference START ME UP is dedicated to the communication strategies and mobilisation measures to be applied in order to transform the Danube Region Strategy into an initiative that enjoys wide support throughout society.

One part of the conference will identify suitable communication objectives that can and should be attained in order to meet specific tasks and challenges of the Danube Region Strategy. The wide range of programmatic expectations and the great number of potential participants in the Danube macro-region necessitate precise ideas regarding communication and focal points for mobilisation and dialogue.

The second aspect to be discussed concerns the question of how communication and mobilisation need to be concretely designed to ensure that the envisaged objectives can be successfully implemented. This will entail a discussion of the messages to be spread as well as of personnel capacities, financial resources and effective media use.
